Powered by GoogleWe love the NKC Y. My younger kids love the kid zone while I teach classes and attend classes. We have met some great people and made lots of friends. I love the community here.
The staff that works there is ALWAYS friendly and I absolutely love that. Especially when I come in at 5:00 am. I bought a membership to Crunch Fitness that just opened up and when I tell you I have inconsistent service with them it's nerve wrecking. The trainers I've come in contact with have no people skills whatsoever. I've only been there a few times and will be canceling my membership with them. Also, I like the size of the locker room at the Y. I like to go to the gym in the morning and I usually get ready for work at the gym after my workout. There is more than enough room for people to get ready at the Y. At Crunch Fitness the locker room is so small where you have to get ready, it's annoying. The small bench is only big enough for 1 person and the space where the lockers are is so small for the amount of people that uses the facility. Very poor planning. And when I workout at the Y, I NEVER run out of room. Sorry to do the comparison but had to so that you can see why I like the Y instead of the new Crunch Fitness.
It was tough to give a 3 star and it was tough to stay. This place is run down. The family bathroom closest to the pool, the shower handle came off in my hand and there are holes in the tile. The men's restroom showers looked rough as well and had similar holes in the tile. The lockers are almost amost completely unusable given their weird out dated design. We came on a day pass with a child. The swim test to this location is quite different from the parkville Ymca. Here, a child had to jump in and swim the length of a lap lane without touching, this is a bit much to demonstrate ability. At parkville, its jump in and swim back to the wall. The younger female lifeguard called out every kid using a paddle board or pool noodle as you had to be 18 to use them. Does this really make sense? The kids need the assistance. Also, because this lazy river is almost 4ft, much deeper than most and no one was being out of line or using them inappropriately. We were bummed because both slides were open and by the time we got into the pool they were down a lifeguard and the slides were shut down - the water features were nice and much more over parkvilles. Patrick was very nice and turned the smaller slide and water features on and allowed that slide to be used. The steam room was perfect regarding temperature as the one in parkville was set to way to hot, eucalyptus was alsoavailable. Also, the lifeguards did not check the steam rooms in their rounds like they do in parkville to ensure everyone is safe. I also didn't like how they took one picture of someone in our party and no one elses, for a day pass. Why? Overall, disappointing and we will likely not be back.
The facility is clean and the equipment works well. The staff at kids zone are amazing and really care about the kids. I know when I drop them off to go workout, they will be well cared for. Pool is decent as well. My favorite amenity is the steam room.
I think Faith needed a snickers. This is a Fantastic facility. It's the largest Y I've ever known with a great variety of machines and equipment. As others have stated some new equipment has been employed. It gets busy of course but there is ample space with a little bit of common courtesy for everyone to get where they need to. The pool is massive with sectioned areas for more competitive swimmers and casual swimmers alike. It even has a small lazy river type section that creates a gentle current. I stumbled across a water yoga class one day and joined in as best I could not knowing much about the various poses and that was a treat. Having a rock climbing wall, huge basketball court, table tennis, dry and wet sauna amongst all the other amenities, I can't think of anything off hand this Y doesn't have. While using the dry sauna you will periodically see the lifeguards do a safety check on everyone which I find reassuring. The staff is generally extremely attentive and accommodating. It gets a lot of traffic and use so it's not going to be perfect all the time but they get damn close. Worth every penny in my humble opinion. Good job fam. I think I'll head on in this morning and burn some of this holiday food excess I've acquired off and have a grounding sauna session. If I could've given six stars I would have!
