Summer dance day camp at the Mark Morris Dance Center on Lafayette Avenue in Brooklyn's cultural district. Two-week sessions for ages 6-12 pair daily technique classes in ballet, modern, tap, hip-hop and jazz with visual art, theater, music, composition and stagecraft, all themed around a piece of Mark Morris Dance Group repertory and taught with live musical accompaniment. Standard days run about 9:15/9:30am to 2:45pm, with an optional Broadway-focused extended day until 4:45pm; camps are explicitly open to children with and without disabilities. The school is non-competitive and non-recital, and camp tuition is offered on three tiers with subsidies at the lower two.

I took an Intro to Tap class with Yuka Kameda. She is an excellent teacher and it was a very fun & informative class. The staff at Mark Morris are very helpful & friendly

Officially took 4 beginner ballet classes here. I love how affordable it is, $22 for an hour and 30mins. However, ballet is a lot of footwork and sequences/steps. It was beyond frustrating when the teachers would only demonstrate ONE time, then expect you to memorize the entire steps and go about doing it yourself. For the price you're paying on a fully booked class, the building is earning close to $800+ per session (~40 students x $22). I think the teachers should be performing while teaching and not just demonstrating once and then just shouting random words in French. It's kind of lazy, and unfair to those who genuinely want to learn, because they just get confused and overwhelmed. Also, demonstrating from different angles and various positions can help since not everyone is on the same side of the bar/position in class.

Classes studio is nice...disappointed that we were lick out of the main waiting area and could not sit down there and eat...

i’ve taken a few beginner dance classes so far and had a great experience with all! $22 drop-in classes, $20 for students, and they also offer an evening subsidy. a great range of dance styles. while sometimes on the challenging side, the instructors are friendly and encouraging. great reception/customer service team too. eyeing a 6-week intro series next!

On the cutting edge of choreography and training in dance and music. Helps with staging proprietary ballets and organized residencies.
