Maplewood School in Wantagh runs a nursery and pre-school during the school year and a full summer day camp on the same Wantagh Avenue campus. Swimming is the centrepiece: the camp has Senior and Aqua Tot pools plus a giant water slide, every child swims daily with half the time given to American Red Cross instruction, and the aquatics staff is led by a Red Cross certified Aquatics Director with lifeguards certified by the Red Cross and Nassau County. Land activities span sports (basketball, soccer, lacrosse, flag football, field hockey, softball, gaga), arts, drama, music, dance, cooking, photography, nature and science, a carnival and colour war, with a travel programme for older groups. Tuition includes lunch, snack, transportation, towel service and field trips, bus service is first-come first-served, and a 5% discount applies for each additional sibling; the operator states that it does not support or teach the negative aspects of competition.
