Lizondo Futbol Academy
Private
Lizondo Futbol Academy, which operates as LFA Rush, is a nonprofit competitive youth soccer club for boys and girls ages 8-18, launched in May 2024 under director of coaching Rick Lizondo. It is an affiliate of Rush Soccer, an international network of youth and professional clubs, and plays on a 57-acre property on Longmont's northeast border with Mead, with tryouts held in Berthoud. The club states it distributes coaching quality evenly across all levels and ages rather than concentrating it on elite teams, and fielded eight teams with about 120 players in its first season. No summer camp program is listed on the club's site.

Powered by GoogleAll three of my kids play here, love it, and are becoming great soccer players with the excellent coaching. The coaches care about the kids, and the kids can tell. The mix of CSA league soccer plus select tournaments is great. Anyone can come to practice to check it out, so if you are on the fence, I suggest you give it a try.
As with many others, my son wasn't having the best experience at the neighboring club, mainly due to being bullied by the director of the age group at the other club, which was completely unacceptable (although we've learned not unique to our son). Since the very beginning with LFA, he started loving soccer again. We see it in the way he plays and the relationship he has with the other players and coaches. An absolute night and day difference. His development has been is incredible and the LFA community has been outstanding. If you are looking for a club where your child will develop and have a great time doing it, then look no further. I can't say enough about LFA. So much better than the other option!
My son plays for LFA and my husband is a coach. I can’t tell you how much the LFA community has meant to our family. My son absolutely loves learning and playing possession style soccer, and can’t wait to get out to the facility as many days per week as possible. My husband has finally found a home where someone else believes in and coaches the style of soccer that he loves and couldn’t be happier to have the chance to coach each and every one of the kids at practices and tournaments. It is so cool as a parent to look down the sideline during one of my son’s games and realize that there are twice as many parents as usual because families from other teams have come out to support us. The community of families and staff, all working toward one goal—to learn and understand this beautiful game of socce, and to support each other in this endeavor—makes for a unique environment that is difficult to find in youth sports today. Thank you, Rick Lizondo, for creating an environment where everyone can flourish and HAVE FUN playing soccer!!
Our son has been playing with LFA since they opened. We’ve absolutely loved it! His level of play has improved significantly as has his love for the game (which had been diminishing because of the style of coaching in his previous league that was harsh, way too complicated for the kids and frankly not very fun). Rick and the LFA staff teach team skills and focus on simple, clear concepts that the kids easily grasp and learn. The kids spend more time practicing and playing and we spend much less time driving hours for short games (LFA’s model is to have the kids play longer games, play scrimmages locally and focus on a few tournaments for our travel games so when we’re driving to a game the kids are playing multiple games that make the trip worth it). The ability to drop in and play most days has also been fantastic - our son is at LFA 3-5 days a week (2 for practice, but many weeks 3 additional days for open play). We can’t recommend LFA highly enough!
Both of my daughters began playing at LFA last year on their 07' team. I'm so impressed with how much they've improved in all areas of the game. Rick and the other coaches are very knowledgeable and great with the kids. The community is also very welcoming! Would highly recommend joining LFA!
