Kids Playing Camp is an independent day camp held at Northeastern Illinois University, running since 2001 under owner Kathy Chuckas with a 1:6 adult-to-camper ratio and adult and college-age coaches rather than high-school staff. Campers rotate through sports and games — basketball, soccer, softball and T-ball, floor hockey, tennis, volleyball, swimming, gaga, tumbling, wall climbing and backyard games — alongside recycled-materials crafts, engineering activities, science experiments, outdoor nature education and Kids in the Kitchen, with weekly guest coaches and artists. Each Wednesday is a theme day, such as Color Wars, Olympic Day or Carnival Day. Camp runs 8:00 am–3:30 pm with rotations from 8:30 am–3:15 pm, using NEIU's two gymnasiums, racquetball courts, dance studios, tennis courts, ball diamonds and outdoor play space.
