I stay down the street. I play basketball. The rec center has a park near it (Pemberton Hill Park) that has basketball court, playground, football/soccer field, trail to walk, etc. Nice park. But most adolescence and teeneagers go to that park to play basketball. It's the ONLY sport that can be done at this park FOR FREE. Oh and the tennis court that NO ONE uses. I've been here for 2 years now and I've only seen that used ONCE! It needs to be updated or removed in my opinion. You have to pay for the field to use it. So we understand why it's so well kept. But what about non football/soccer players? The park basketball court is a full court, but you can only use half of the court due to the over hanging tree branches on one side of the court. Which brings me to your establishment. The staff advised me that the court (gym) is only available for open recreational use from 6:30pm to 7:30pm (1 HOUR) on Tuesdays and Thursdays only. So either half of an outdoor full court or 2 hours total a week of an indoor court that YOU have available. Most children in this area can't AFFORD to PLAY. I get that you have customers who pay for space, but what about the kids that just need a safe place to play. If the weather is bad I was told by several kids that have to play at his park that they were only allowed for water and the restroom. Nothing more. Really? How are you a safe place when you're closed on weekends, the best day for kids to play during the school year I might add? Now your facility has lots of good programs and activities, but the gym that is primarily used for BASKETBALL, is 90% rented out to someone else for profit. Why not open the gym up on the weekend? Like seriously? What is this hurting to have someone staffed to simply maintain the gym during gym hours? These kids in the Pleasant Grove, Oak Cliff area need these facilities to provide things positive for them to do. I thought that was what this facility was built for. Should be open everyday.

Great for the kids. Great for exercise and a nice place to walk the dog and relax. Take the kids to playing the water and read a good book. No crime and remember go to Janie C Recreation Center. The best things in life are free.

It's great to see creative outlets for children in underserved communities. They have karate, ballet and kick boxing. The park is well manicured and maintained. This is a little piece of paradise in Pleasant Grove.

Don't even try to volunteer here, some employees take advantage of them. They will have you washing dishes and cleaning the restroom toilets; that is not community service, they should have a janitor do that. Also they will give you task after task while volunteers that know the employees only sit in the office sitting down and get the same amount of hours.
