Powered by GoogleMy partner and I have tried several YMCA locations, and the China Grove YMCA is by far our favorite. The equipment feels the most updated, and the pool and hot tub are always clean and well maintained. Even though our home gym is the Rockwell location, we still prefer coming here because the overall atmosphere and amenities are much better for us. The only small improvement I would suggest is having a place to dry swimsuits or wet clothes after using the pool. I also wanted to mention one experience that made me uncomfortable, not to complain, but because I think it could have been handled more appropriately. After a swimming class, while I was actively changing in the locker room, a staff member approached me and asked about my gender. I completely understand that staff may need to follow policies and ensure people are in the correct locker room, and I have no issue with that. My concern was more about the timing and setting of the conversation. Being approached while changing clothes in a vulnerable moment felt uncomfortable and drew attention from others around me. I still continue to come back because I genuinely enjoy this YMCA and think the staff and facility are great overall. I just believe situations like that could be handled more privately and respectfully in the future.
I like the indoor track on cold or rainy mornings. I've used the weight room and it's good too. The pool looks nice but I've not used it before. The staff are friendly in the morning
This facility allows a man to come in with what he claims to be a “Service Animal”. The issue is that they do not require him to keep it on a leash. This guy makes TikTok’s and claims to be a dog trainer. This dog he brings with him is not a service animal. Instead, it is an animal he is trying to train. Not everyone likes dogs and in fact are afraid of dogs. Why does he have more rights to bring in this dog than I have for him not to bring it in? I believe the gentleman with the dog is afraid of his own shadow or something. Keep dogs out of the fitness center!!!
I had a deeply upsetting and racially charged experience at the YMCA in China Grove, NC. My daughter and I were verbally harassed by a staff member named Daniel, who aggressively yelled at us, told us we were trespassing, and ordered us to leave even though we were not doing anything wrong. His behavior was not only unprofessional but felt discriminatory and completely unnecessary. When I reported the incident to other YMCA staff, I was told there would be a training session on how to talk to people yet I’ve received no personal follow-up or accountability for what happened. This type of behavior should never be acceptable, especially at a place that claims to value inclusion and community. Do not waste your time or money supporting a facility that allows this kind of treatment toward its members. If you value respect and equality, look elsewhere.
Wet area was closed. Thats the only reason i went. Excellent whirlpool, steam and sauna rooms 👍🏼 ****Update **** 2/23/24 Locker room issues: Please, is there something that can be done about the little black flying Bugs in the mens shower area?? They are all over the walls, shower curtains, etc. Thx
