The Hurst Recreation Center (700 Mary Drive) runs the City of Hurst's summer camp lineup, which is a set of specialty camps rather than one general camp: youth sports camps in soccer, basketball, volleyball and tennis; Wize Academy coding and robotics camps; a Broadway Bootcamp covering singing, dancing and acting; and a Safari Sports Adventure Camp for outdoor activities. Camps are themed weekly programs that combine physical activity with learning. Registration is online or in person at the recreation center, with fees varying by residency, and popular sessions fill quickly.

★★★★Rochelle KampI do love working out here. One thing I would say for the workers, it would be best if you did not just shut off all of the lights the minute of closing in the weight room. If people have weights in their hands, that could be a potential safety issue. I get it when there are a bunch of kids in the basketball court turning the lights down to signal they should leave. Weight room feels like a bit of a liability. Just a thought.

They don't offer the monthly anymore, but the annual is very manageable ($30 for Hurst residents) though I've been told the rates will go up October 1st. I was surprised at first, but then I saw all the upgrades they've made since I was last a member. Great upgrades. The walking track has been painted, the smaller fitness room with the cardio machines has been laid out better, and they made an amazing weight room in the second gym. I was just astounded at the work they've put in to make this place more functional over the years, and way better equipment. For $75 annual, or $100 starting October 1st, you get two fitness rooms, a real indoor walking track, workout classes, an upstairs strengthening room, and the nicest front desk staff. That's less than half of what you'd pay at the gym. I can't believe I had been wasting money at a gym for less features and perks. Keep up the great work!
