I’ve been coming here for a while and the facility has really gone downhill. The place feels run down, several of the pickleball nets are broken or in rough shape, and the gym gets extremely hot during the summer which makes it uncomfortable to play. Even the divider curtain has been broken for a long time and doesn’t seem to get fixed. One of the biggest frustrations is the scheduling. Basketball and pickleball constantly compete for court space, and it would make things much easier if there were set days or consistent time blocks dedicated to each activity instead of changing things around all the time. The YMCA has a lot of potential, but it really needs better maintenance and more organized scheduling to improve the experience for members.

I wish I could leave 0 stars. Please send someone undercover to monitor the employees. This facility has a handful of miserable people that treat grown men and women like they are children. I had an experience where my friends and I got asked to leave 15 minutes before closing time while wrapping up a short basketball game. Not only that, but the lady had an attitude and spoke to us as if we were middle school students in a classroom. Then one day, I came 40 minutes before closing time and the doors were locked which led to the employees telling me they are closed while I see people shooting on the courts. You guys do this to your members and then also ask for late fees on memberships? I’m not sure what kind of family friendly business does this to people it’s almost humorous at this point. My singular star goes out to the younger girl that works the desk and some of the nicer middle aged women there thank you guys for having decency and respect. Everyone else is miserable, disrespectful, and just disgusting human beings I’m sorry to say it. I can’t stress it enough, but either figure yourselves out, go find a therapist, or don’t work at a family driven establishment. Stay away from the “Greater” Scranton YMCA unless you want your mood ruined by horrid workers.

★Mrs. Pickleball

The biggest issue with this YMCA is how pickleball hours are scheduled. Pickleball is consistently set up way too close to basketball hours, which causes constant conflicts, rushed transitions, and confusion. Courts aren’t ready on time, nets are barely up before basketball needs the space back, and players are left waiting or getting pushed out early. This is unfortunate as NEPA is too cold to play outside. If you’re a pickleball player I’d suggest playing elsewhere as nothing ever changes at this place. You’ll just get some generic reply about “how they will look into it” just as all the other problems at this facility never change

Today I rode 6 miles in perfect weather to this YMCA. I arrived and there is a notice that the YMCA has been closed since 4 o’clock. I ride an electric bike and the roads are fine. Countless gyms in the area are still open. There has been very little snow since 4 o’clock. And the roast are clearly fine enough for someone with a bike to be comfortable riding on. I am not sure who makes the decisions here but this is not the first time this has happened. I love the facility and will continue arriving, but this gets a little frustrating when there is no information about this unnecessary closure online.
