Glenview Tennis Club is the Glenview Park District's indoor tennis facility, with eight climate-controlled courts, racquet stringing, a sauna and an exercise room, plus access to 40 park district outdoor courts. Its GTC Morning Tennis Camp runs Monday to Friday, 9:15am to 11:45am, for beginner to intermediate juniors, grouping players by age-appropriate ball and court size (Red for ages 5-8, Orange for 9-10, Green for 11-14); a Competitive Tennis Training camp serves intermediate to advanced players ages 11-14 on regular yellow balls. Year-round the club runs a junior pathway from Little Hitter up to a Championship Training Academy, plus group and private lessons and leagues.

(Never underestimate the importance of that alignment.) Based on my experience, that pedagogy is this: “Only move juniors along the tennis development path once they have mastered the different levels (red, orange, green). Don’t rush kids into higher levels and yellow (regular) ball just to be able to charge more. In the meantime, commit talented, dedicated and CONSISTENT coaching staff to nurturing their game. Make sure to have professionals and program infrastructure to take a 6 year old and support them as far as they can go in tennis, up to and including Division 1 NCAA tennis and the U.S. Open.” This tennis center is a major factor in why I live where I do.
