We have participated in the GTK program twice and we are so grateful for our experience with this theatre company. From the moment rehearsals began, it was clear how much care, dedication, and heart the directors and staff pour into every production. Being cast in a significant role was an incredible opportunity for our daughter, and the experience helped her grow tremendously in confidence, skills, and love for theatre. The encouragement and kindness that the directors showed to each child creates a supportive environment where kids can truly thrive, regardless of their skill level. The countless hours spent on rehearsals, costumes, sets, and every behind-the-scenes detail were evident in the final performance, which was absolutely wonderful. More importantly though, the experience itself was so fun for the kids and was something our family will always cherish. If you’re looking for a theatre program that nurtures young performers, builds confidence, and creates unforgettable memories, we cannot recommend this company highly enough.

My kiddo has attended three years at Generic Theater for Kids and I have nothing but great things to say. Ms Judy holds the kids to a typical theater standard and expects them to practice/know their lines and participate to the best of their ability — and that helps them grow! They start and end on time, they let us know of any changes in scheduled days well ahead of time and they even let us know if traffic around the practice time is wonky in the area. Paperwork is sent home on time and is up to the standard always, she doesn’t over email or under inform. These ladies are GEMS and we love them and the program.

Judy and her team have been absolutely amazing! They have truly nurtured and developed my daughter’s confidence, talent, and love for performing. She started with them at age 7, and now at 9 years old, she has already been in four plays, each one helping her grow both on and off the stage. One of mine is currently auditioning for theater programs for College . They are both successful in their High School theater programs. The owner goes out of her way to make sure to attend their HS performances whenever possible. She gave my children the support and courage to pursue their dreams.

Our kids did the most recent children’s theater class and had their performance tonight. But every week the kids got into the car upon class pick up (ages 7 and 9) and would talk about how the two teachers just yelled at the kids the whole time and said rude things to them. I would ask to tell me what was said and here’s some examples “shut up and listen” “you didn’t practice your lines!!” To children who clearly were trying their best and did practice. The kids would say that they just sat in class the whole time unable to talk while other people worked on their part and they just had to sit and listen so they found it to be not only boring, but very stressful. Day of performance: I heard them rehearsing beforehand and again the children were being yelled at. They put down the children by saying they haven’t practiced and they aren’t good. They are not building the kids up by encouraging them. They literally told the kids “this is the worst show we’ve seen” before the kids were expected to go on stage in front of parents and family to preform what they just worked months for. No smiles on any of the kids faces until it was finished. Also- there was not enough practice before hitting the stage. They hadn’t even ran the play from start to finish until they did it in front of everybody live. All the kids seemed very unsure and they each forgot a large percentage of their lines and looked very confused about what to do on stage. This is because they never had a proper dress rehearsal. My kids were very uneasy and disturbed at seeing how the two women spoke to the other kids in their class. They even said they felt scared of them. There was 1 boy with a speak delay/learning disability of some sort and my son said that he got yelled at before the performance so bad that he cried. When we heard that we were mad for that poor child and his parents. These kids should feel proud of themselves, not shamed and disappointed in their performance. This is the beginning of these children’s confidence in theater and they are being made to dislike it and feel dumb. Confidence is everything and it’s not what they are gaining here. As my 7 year old says- “we are supposed to be built up, not torn down”
