Excel In Basketball

My son Gunner has attended camp for the past 2 years. He will return again this summer as he enters 5th grade. The coaches, story telling and philosophical approach to teaching the game, make this a must attend camp.

This is my son's 3rd time coming here. He did the Excel basketball camp 3 yrs straight, I'd say the first 2 years, the coaches were much attentive to the kids. However, there are always some coaches that would rather chat with their fellow coaches rather than focus their attention on the kids. Sadly to say that this might be our last year coming here for our son to join a basketball camp. This year is much worse as the coaches are less attentive. Also, today, my son did not get to participate in a 3v3 game, and so did his other teammates. The coach picked only those he thinks can play well or more physical to play. The rest sat for 20 minutes. I thought that they would have another round to play, but when the time ended, they were all called back in the center court to be dismissed for the day. My son didn't join this camp to be ignored and feel less important than the rest of the kids. I have noticed multiple times how other kids like to ball hog and none of the coaches ever try to inform them the importance of passing the ball and having another teammate get the chance to touch or shoot the ball. Also, coaches would keep the good players playing much longer compared to those who are not moving fast enough. One thing playing in any game is teamwork, and it has to be the first one that it needs to be translated to ALL kids participating in this camp. This is what I see, lacking teamwork.
