Echo Hill Camp

Updating after great conversation with leaders at the camp. There is a definate culture of sneaking out at night. Counselors and leaders are wonderful and engaging and want the best for the kids but you need to speak with your kids before they go about boundaries, peer pressure and sneaking out at night. In our experience there were things that happened that we were uncomfortable with. The camp leaders took our feedback and have made some changes that we hope will be effective for the coming summer.

I miss Echo Hill so much! Camped here from 9 years old to I think 14? The food was amazing, Ms. Honey was the best cook. I had the best counselors and friends in camp. Always eventful evening activities, bug juice, del... Coke swim, midnight walks on the horse trails just to get a little freaked out. The dances, the never ending list of activities you can do throughout the day. Art center.. swamp mucking, open mic, awards ceremonies, plays. Pete on his gator always offering a lift. Wakeboarding with Julie and Petie, crabbing with fran and fishing with Elliott. Sandcastle contest. Capture the flag, scavenger hunts. Different little trips we'd take, the songs on the bus. Camp songs we'd sing altogether every morning outside the whip. The costume closet. Horse back riding. Crumpton auction or whatever it was called 😂 Mystery rides, all of it. My life wasn't so great outside of camp a lot of the time, during those years. But when I was at camp... I was the happiest kid alive. So care free and content, just down to do whatever, whenever. Always positive vibes. There is definitely a sense and feeling of family and magic at this camp. I'm so grateful I got to come here. Echo Hill changed my life. My nickname at camp was "buddy" haha... No one knew me as Phil. I wish I could go back in time and go to camp again. Every kid should come here. My girlfriend is always thinking of where we could get married and I always think of echo hill, if we could arrange that, that would be awesome. Thank you Echo Hill for all of the memories and truly changing my life for the better and being my home away from home during my youth. ❤️

19JUNE2025 This was my first visit here and the drive was lovely. I actually love long drives with lots of fields..it’s the serene tranquility. The property is so beautiful and such camp vibes. The space is so suited for summer camp 🏕. All the tranquility with nature and the creatures. Kids who can appreciate no screen time will ABSOLUTELY love here. The camp counselors are a superb, blended, young, and professional mixed group that will bring so much useful information and culture to all the kids that attend Camp Echo Hill.

Our kid loves this camp with all of her heart. She cries when she leaves and begs to go back. The people she meets, the skills she learns, and the experiences she creates with her friends are irreplaceable. I went here as a kid and it seems that very little has changed. As a parent, I love there are no electronics and how kids come from all over the world to attend. 10/10 will be sending our kid year after year.

In seventh grade, during the 2012-2013 school year, my private school on Maryland’s Eastern Shore took us on a field trip to Echo Hill. It was a tradition for students at my school, something almost everyone went through. When we arrived, the school staff searched us for cell phones, ensuring we could not contact home. The day was packed with activities—some fun—but overall, the experience wasn’t great. Things started going downhill pretty fast. After dealing with the less-than-stellar food, I returned to my cabin, only to find my sleeping bag covered in bugs. I shook them out as best I could and tried to settle in, but at 13 years old, it wasn’t easy to brush it off. Then, to make things worse, I realized my contact solution containers had leaked everything when I opened my bag. With my phone taken away, I had to go to the counselor’s office to ask if I could call my parents. It was around 10 PM when I finally got through to them, and they said they’d get me the next day. I spent the whole next day waiting, but they never showed up. Later, I found out the staff told my parents I was doing fine and didn’t want to talk to them—which couldn’t have been further from the truth. I spent the rest of the trip soaking my contacts in a plastic cup using the solution my music teacher kindly gave me. When I got home, I was upset, frustrated, and honestly exhausted from the whole ordeal. When I told my parents what had happened, they were shocked. They had wanted to check on me, but the staff convinced them I was okay. More than ten years later, I still think about how much that experience affected me. At 24, it has stuck with me, not in a good way. After hearing everything I went through, my younger sister decided to skip the trip entirely when it was her turn. I hope that Echo Hill has changed since then and that no other kids have to go through what I did.
