★★★★Hamzah AbdCranbrook Institute of Science is a really enjoyable museum and definitely worth visiting if you have an interest in science, nature, geology, or history. My favorite part was seeing the mastodon skeletons and learning about animals that lived in Michigan thousands of years ago. The mineral and geology exhibits were also impressive, with displays of crystals, rocks, metals, gold, silver, and even rough diamonds. One of the coolest things was seeing what I was told was a rock that is more than 3 billion years old, which really puts Earth’s history into perspective. Another exhibit I enjoyed was the Michigan insect collection. They have a large glass display with countless native insects, flies, beetles, and other bugs carefully organized and labeled with information. It was fascinating to see so many species from our state all in one place. The museum is clean, educational, and has plenty to explore. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that some areas felt a little smaller than I expected and I found myself wishing there were even more exhibits to look through. Overall, I’d rate it around 4.25 out of 5 stars. It’s a great place to spend a few hours and learn something new, especially if you enjoy fossils, minerals, and natural history.

The Cranbrook Science Museum is a little gem in the tri-county area. The Cranbrook Museum has everything from dinosaurs to gems and minerals to a planetarium. In addition, they have traveling exhibits that change periodically. One section of the museum is designed for children to interact with the exhibits. If you like science, or have children who like science, The Cranbrook Institute of Science is definitely a place you should visit.

Walking into the main hall and seeing the massive T. rex skeleton cast immediately sets the tone for an incredible day of discovery. The mineral collection is world-class; I could spend hours staring at the vibrant crystals in the Mineral Study Gallery. If you visit, the Acheson Planetarium is a must—the shows are immersive and truly transport you across the galaxy. I also loved the hands-on physics displays and the serene trails surrounding the campus. It’s the perfect mix of historic charm and cutting-edge science that appeals to both kids and adults. A Michigan must-see!
