Conanicut Yacht Club in Jamestown runs a junior sailing program open to non-members, member guests, and their families, teaching learn-to-sail, recreational, and racing classes to children ages 5-18 from late June through mid-August. The program sails a range of boats from Prams and Optimists to 420s, ILCAs, and keelboats. A new 2026 extended-day pilot combines sailing and tennis for members' children ages 5-12.

My buddy and I took a trip up to the island to stay four days and metal detect. Having little luck finding decent spots, I had my buddy pull over and I went inside the yacht club, up the stairs where I was suddenly standing before, lemme see if I can remember their names, Leah, Lauren, Patrick, I think there was a blBob or Dave or a much simpler name in the re plus the guy who obviously was in charge. The unnamed guy made a list that they all contributed ideas to for me and they were just as welcoming and warm as anyplace id ever been. I'd give them 10 stars if I could, not because they gave me good Intel on where to swing my detector but because they treated me like a human being, with respect and interest and I dare say excitement to hear a couple of my find stories. Very happy with them and the island as a whole from the erk at the convenient store to the top, thanks Jamestown and Newport islands, I do feel for your bridge tolls though, luckily the rental car company pays ours or rent money would be a thing of myth this next month!
