Cimarroncito is one of Philmont Scout Ranch's three staffed climbing camps, in the central country of this Boy Scouts of America high-adventure base near Cimarron, New Mexico. Crews reach it on multi-day backpacking treks and learn rock climbing and rappelling on both artificial towers and natural rock faces. It is open to registered Scouts and Venturers who are 14, or who have completed 8th grade and are at least 13. This is an overnight wilderness trek, not a day camp.

★★★★★Josh HandelandMy favorite camp when I went!!! This was back in 2007. You were allowed to challenge any staff member to Armwrestling, pull-ups, or push-ups, and at the end they gave me a prize (a pudding cup lol). Also super fun to climb the bouldering wall. We stayed here a full day and did a day hike which was awesome as well. The year I was there, a staff member named Brett was the guy to beat at Armwrestling, and he kicked my butt!!! I’m super curious if he got into pro Armwrestling, bc I started competing the next year and still do it at a high level, and I definitely think he’d have done pretty good (really good if he trained for it). I considered him to be pound for pound the strongest guy I’d went against by far, up until I started actually competing (because most guys I lost to back then were 230+ lbs and he was probably 150-something) P.S. the water at this campsite is the worst I’ve ever tasted!!! But, suck it up buttercup 🤣

★★★★Perfect BagelOnly shower on our trek, after 9 days. It had hot water and felt great. The rock wall was crowded, so you could only go up once, but it has a pokestop and cell reception (at least on t-mobile). Swap box was one of the best on our trek.
