Baldy Town is one of the staffed backcountry camps at Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimarron, operated by the Boy Scouts of America (Scouting America). Themed around the historic Baldy Mining District, it offers gold panning, assaying, geology, and mining-history programs to Scout trekking crews passing through on multi-day backcountry expeditions. It serves registered Scouts on Philmont treks rather than open enrollment.

★★★★Walker MoberlyBeautiful camp, but sleeping here is rough. At least in the campsite my crew stayed at, everyone was complaining about the slopes. Several times per night, we slid down to the bottom of our tents during the night. It was really annoying, but it could’ve just been because of all the rain. On the other hand, there were actually showers at this camp, so that was a big plus.

The trail down from Baldy turns into a river when it rains so be careful. For anyone wondering the meal bag snake is at the commissary where you do food pick up and not at the main cabin.

★★★★★Joey PaugaThis was the place to refuel and refill our water. We stopped here on our way atop Mt Baldy. We arrived here from Ute Meadows campsite and rested for 45 minutes then departed at 8am to head up Mt. Baldy. This was a good strategy. Then on our way back we stopped here to pick up food for the next 4 days and they had all-you-can-eat fruit (oranges, apples, pears). They also gave us chocolate milk for free. It was a really good stop. They close at 6pm so keep that in mind.
