Chinquapin Park Recreation Center & Aquatics Facility is the City of Alexandria's largest recreation center, built around a year-round 25-meter indoor pool and diving well and adding a fitness room, racquetball courts, lighted tennis courts, an outdoor basketball court, a sand volleyball court, saunas, a soft playroom, playground, picnic pavilion and nature trails. The center runs land and water classes, swim teams, recreational swimming and summer swim camps pitched at a range of ages and skill levels, mixing stroke work with games and activities led by instructors. WeAquatics is the city's official learn-to-swim school and teaches its ages 4-and-up program here. The facility is open roughly 6am-6pm in summer and 6am-9pm weekdays during the school year.

I remember having fun in the play room (which looks like it's seen some upgrades since then) and getting strawberry smoothies and granola bars from the snack bar. Does it still have a snack bar? Anyway, only four stars because I still have a scar on my chin from hitting it on the sharp edge of the tile while trying to hoist my four-year-old self out of the pool. So be careful, toddlers!
★★Anne RennerThe soft play room is great for babies and toddlers and it’s one of the largest public pools in Alexandria. The staff are always courteous and the facilities are perfectly clean if not brand new. The reason for the 3 stars is despite being “public” it’s closed basically 24/7 to small children so people who pay for private swim lessons ($200-$250 a month for group, or per lesson for private) can have the entire space. They suggest coming back during the tiny window it is free (1-3PM).. which as any under 5 parent knows is nap time. So basically only kids whose parents want to pay that much can learn to swim. Really disappointing for something that should be accessible to everyone.
