My daughter started here doing summer camps since she was about 6 years old and loves it so much that she continues each summer. She is now 14 and does the show camps and hopes to do the Master Camps next year. She has had wonderful experiences and raves about how inclusive and friendly the people are. The shows are always amazing! Great confidence builder!

My First theater experience here was miserable for me. I constantly felt belittled. On one occasion a staff member told me to go talk to the costume director who didn’t even know my name and she screamed at me because I hung the clothes wrong. I was hysterical for 30 plus minutes and pressured to return to rehearsal. My parents were never notified a staff member had said something that made me hysterical and obviously uncomfortable. If that’s the way theater is that’s fine, but their program’s core values are creating a nurturing environment where everyone is treated with respect. This was the exact opposite of what they preached and what me and my parents had signed up for.

I joined CWorks in September 2025 and had the opportunity to perform in Willy Wonka. CWorks is a Christian-based theater community in Central Virginia that provides a welcoming and very supportive environment for performers. The directors and artistic team are outstanding, kind, encouraging, and always willing to help. I especially appreciate how this community focuses on growth both on and off the stage; it has helped me become a better actor and a stronger singer. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I would highly recommend CWorks to anyone interested in theater/acting. I’m really looking forward to participating in more productions in the future.

Having the opportunity to participate and see Character Works shows over the past four years, I can say with confidence this is one of the most incredible theater programs in the central Virgina area. I've seen remarkable growth in myself and those around me in terms of abilities, confidence, and most importantly, faith. The Cworks staff excel at putting on shows, always ensuring that God is front and center. Some of my strongest friendships have been made through Cworks and the community is very uplifting and welcoming. To anyone trying to get their child involved in the arts, I highly recommend!

Our granddaughter has participated for three years and we have attended a half dozen shows. Most importantly, the staff has created a positive environment. After each show, it is evident how much the kids enjoy being part of each production AND being around one another. Parents provide a supportive network for involvement at shows with concessions; and car-pooling to rehearsals seems common. The shows are well directed with nice sets and costumes, solos and chorus opportunities, and entertaining dance choreography. The fact that it is all based on a foundation of Christian values is either all that matters or icing on the cake! If you are considering this as an activity for your pre-teen or teen who is neither in training to be awarded a NCAA athletic scholarship or otherwise preoccupied as a virtuoso musician, and you want your child to have a positive personal growth experience with other kids away from 24/7 video gaming and social media, this is a tremendous opportunity to explore. If you are simply seeking to attend entertaining theater, even if you know none of the kids in the performance you will be entertained, but you better get tickets early because shows seem to sell out!
