Camp Winton is a Boy Scouts of America summer camp run by the Golden Empire Council, on the lakefront of Lower Bear River Reservoir at about 5,800 feet in the Sierra Nevada near Pioneer. Founded in 1958, it offers week-long sessions for Scouts BSA troops, crews and ships centered on merit-badge classes and activities such as canoeing, motorboating, rifle shooting, pioneering, leatherworking, fishing and environmental science. Participation is through scouting units rather than open enrollment.
