Awesome and fantastic camp! Grew up going here and glad to see my children having the experience!
From the perspective of a Boy Scout going here to earn merit badges, this camp isn’t the best one I have been to. There are definitely more spiders and mosquitoes than the other camps I went to. The walks from the campsites to the dining hall and aquatics areas are pretty long. The merit badge instructors were okay and not as fun. But the shower house was pretty good as it was a full bathroom with more room to change. In the dining hall, the food was decent but I was not a fan of the “family style” food serving. Also another good thing was that the trading post had amazing prices. It was only $2 for a pretty durable cup that gave me access to discounted slushies. Pretty above average camp but not the best overall.
This is a great Scout camp. Not too big and fairly easy to get to where kids need to go. There are spiders and all sorts of bugs because we are tenting in their habitat, in nature. Normal to have bugs. Use a Sansbug on the cot and keep it zipped. Bathroom are acceptable but could be cleaned out a bit more by staff not scouts. The food was more than fine. It’s scout summer camp, not a 4/5 star luxury getaway so expectations should be set in advance. They had enough food, kid friendly menu, and even my picky child was able to find things to eat. If you need alternative foods (vegan, gluten free, vegetarian, etc…) they try to accommodate but I’d bring a couple protein sources to supplement. The programming was great and camp staff are super nice and helpful. My kids loved the week there, made friends, loved swimming in the lake, earning merit badges, and the ending night campfire. They definitely want to return next summer.
Thanks a lotttttttt for 'Goochland County Sheriff’s Office' for conducting 'Goochland County Kid’s Fishing Day'... We enjoyed a lot.. Hospitality of Sherriff's are unbelievable they where very very sweet.. They spend time with us and trained us how to Fish.. and Food also very good.. Additionally they encouraged my son by giving uncirculated 'American Eagle Silver bullion coin 2019' for his First Fish catch.. Again Thanks a lot Sir/ Madam..
