Camp Hickory is a nonprofit Christian camp and retreat center on 47 wooded acres in Ingleside, in northern Illinois' Lake County. Its own site describes summer camps, weekend retreats and day events on the property, with recreation including sport fields, a seasonal pool, archery and an indoor game room. Overnight groups stay in bunk-lined cabins, a main lodge, or a secondary lodge with a bunkhouse and suite, and a chapel and flexible hall host gatherings. The camp is tied to the Heartland District of Foursquare churches, whose children and youth it serves alongside area churches, schools and businesses.

Poor Facility Maintenance – If cabins, bathrooms, or dining areas are not well-maintained, it can negatively impact the experience. Limited Activities – A lack of engaging or well-organized activities can make the camp feel boring. Food Quality Issues – If meals are low-quality, repetitive, or don’t cater to dietary needs, it can be a major downside. Unfriendly or Untrained Staff – Poor management, unhelpful staff, or lack of proper supervision can lead to a bad experience. Safety Concerns – Issues like unsafe equipment, lack of medical staff, or poor emergency procedures can make a camp risky. Overcrowding – If too many people are booked at once, facilities can become overwhelmed, leading to discomfort. Strict or Unreasonable Rules – Some campers may find the camp’s policies overly restrictive. Lack of Cleanliness – Dirty accommodations, restrooms, or dining areas can make for an unpleasant stay. Unreliable Wi-Fi or Cell Service – Some people may find it frustrating if they need occasional connectivity but can’t access it.
My first visit to Camp Hickory I was fourteen years old and had the experience of a lifetime.. over a decade later it's still one of my very favorite places to be! The staff go above and beyond for their guests, the facilities always feel clean and cozy, and the atmosphere offers peace like no other. Camp Hickory always feels like coming home. Another perk: Camp Hickory is also situated in a great location - nearby Six Flags, a variety of fun shops and restaurants, and of course.. about 5 minutes to Starbucks. ;) Will recommend this place to anyone and everyone!
nice pool, kinda boring sometimes. love my leaders though. worship is nice, vv big chapel.
Camp Hickory is a great place for weekend retreats, week long camps or even weddings. The grounds are beautiful and the facilities are very clean and nice. I've been here many times and even had my wedding here. I can't say enough good things about this place. Plus the staff are amazing! They are very kind and willing to help in any way they can.
