Camp Galileo is a national day-camp chain whose West Loop site runs at Galileo Scholastic Academy, 820 S. Carpenter St. Rising kindergarteners through 5th graders rotate daily through three areas - an Innovator's Studio for individual STEAM projects, an Idea Lab for collaborative design challenges, and Outdoor Adventure for team games - while rising 6th-8th graders spend the week on one extended project. The camp day runs 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with optional extended care from 8-9 a.m. and 3-6 p.m.; six themed weeks are offered for K-5 and three for middle schoolers.

★★★★★Carmen CervantesMy 6 yo daughter went to Camp Galileo and she was so enthralled by it that she asked that she go to Camp Galileo every year! It was such an amazing environment for her. They emphasize so many skills and mental strategies that most places simply don't care about, but that are INVALUABLE for raising an intelligent, strong, self-assured, and emotionally secure child. She would come home and let me know that she received praise for making mistakes, being kind, and being a visionary. (YAY!!!) That alone was well worth the investment in Camp Galileo!! The projects she worked on were always so intriguing (backpack rocket booster, rocking chair, maze game, etc.), always made from cardboard and other simple items, but clearly exercising her ingenuity, creativity, and problem solving skills. I cannot recommend this camp highly enough. It was a great balance of fun, summer games, friendships, thinking, creating, and making. And the fact that she was in groups of children her same age, as well as in a program that had great structured curriculum was so needed. We will indeed be going back every year.
★★★★★Sarah WalterMy kids, ages 5 and 11, had a great experience at the West Loop Galileo Camp (during the Castle Quest session). Everything was very well organized and the enrollment process was clear and detailed without being too onerous (some other camp registrations have felt like applying to college!). The staffers were friendly and engaging and seemed to truly enjoy their work. My younger son is quite shy initially and they did a great job making him feel comfortable as he got used to a new environment. I appreciated that the camp integrated age-appropriate projects/activities across a common theme so there was a coherence to the entire multi-level cohort. For example, my 11-year-old designed and created a working water blaster to defend their castle, and my younger son built a castle with drawbridge out of cardboard. On the last day, they had a Medieval fair where all of the campers participated in games to earn tickets for prizes. The price - especially with the early registration discount - is on par with other summer day camps and there is early/late day care available. We have done quite a few summer camps around the city, and this one is now at the top of their list. We'll be back!
