Now this… this is what civilization should look like. A place where young folks can find hope, direction, and a sense of belonging in a world that so often tries to grind ‘em down. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska ain’t just some building with lights and walls — it’s a camp for the soul. The people there, they don’t do it for money or glory. They do it because they believe — in the next generation, in giving kids a fighting chance, in building something better than what came before. You can see it in their eyes, that same spark I once saw in the gang when we still had our dreams intact. They give those boys and girls a place to learn, laugh, and grow — to become something more. And that, my friends, is worth more than all the gold in Blackwater. Five stars. A beacon of light in a cold, cruel world. — Dutch van der Linde

I genuinely wish for the down fall of the boys and girls club, their mission has very much changed and is not about the kids and the people but now about HR and office style. I refuse to comply and am now making a formal complaint, please if you want to do something for the community please look into the rec centers in anchorage as their priorities have never changed.

I have been trying to get a hold of someone (anyone) from Boys and Girls Club administration for three weeks. A female with a bad attitude answers the phone everytime, and cannot answer any questions, only take my name and number over and over. I seriously cannot believe that an organization who is responsible for children in after-school programs, cannot be reached nor return my call for three weeks. I just wanted to ask before I signed up, what the schedule/calendar of care hours were for the program because the website doesn’t clarify, and obviously that would be a crucial and reasonable piece of information to know. I am very concerned about my children being watched by an organization so disorganized and evasive.

I think every place has their downfalls but my 2 year old has been here for the last year and I cannot thank her teachers enough. Her infant teachers in ptarmigan were great and now she has the best teachers in the toddler classroom (wolverines). If BGC is doing anything right it’s having these teachers here. They’re the best, they’re consistent and they truly care about their kiddos.

Not impressed at all. I signed my child up for the after school program & the kids literally do nothing. Not sure about the other locations but the Woodland location is depressing. They don’t plan any games or activities for them & are confined to only one room in the facility that has tables & benches. I’m honestly okay with them not planning any activities since it’s only until 6pm. However the children should be allowed to enjoy free play time in the gym area. Instead when I walk in to pick up my child every evening I just see them sitting on a bench bored to death with staff standing around talking to each other. Children are not allowed to bring their own entertainment either.
