Disappointed by the Lack of Sportsmanship I’m writing this review not out of anger, but out of concern. My recent experience with Rush left me deeply disappointed. While I understand that competitive sports can be intense, what I witnessed went beyond healthy competition and into the realm of unsportsmanlike behavior. From the coaches to certain players, there was a noticeable lack of respect for both the opposing team and the spirit of the game. They played a team that was clearly at a disadvantage—only 9 players with no substitutes—yet instead of showing sportsmanship or humility, the team repeatedly gloated after each goal. Even worse, several players mocked and made fun of the opposing team throughout the game. This behavior felt not only unnecessary but mean-spirited, especially given the two-man disadvantage the other team faced. Youth sports should be about respect, teamwork, and growth—not domination for the sake of ego. Winning isn’t impressive when it comes at the expense of decency. This kind of conduct reflects poorly on both the coaching staff and the club’s culture. It’s disheartening to see this kind of behavior modeled, especially in a sport that should be building character and teamwork in young athletes. Parents and spectators deserve an environment where the emphasis is on growth, respect, and fair play—not on winning at all costs. I hope the club takes this feedback seriously and considers how its culture and conduct on the field reflect on the organization as a whole. Alaska Youth Soccer has so much potential for growth but behavior like this undermines the development of all of our players.

Great club. First you have to know that most clubs in Alaska are really small compared to the L48. Reputation is everything when you be decide where to go. All the clubs talk about “long term development”, but Rush is one of the few I have been around that believes it. If you want your kid to be more than a U13 trophy mule for a club, check out Rush. There is another larger club in Anchorage, but the fees are higher and they are fine with demining your kid in order to put a trophy on the wall. For the record, my kid is a great player and when he moved from another dumpster fire club that was a lot closer than Rush, he could have gone to any club he wanted. He chose Rush for a reason, the coaching staff. They will push you kid to be better, but with respect. On a side not, to tell you how ridiculous other clubs are, that 1 Star from Steve Day, he is the president of another club, classy(and the High School girls coach). That’s an example on how lame other clubs are. His club doesn’t have a Google review capability for a reason.

I’d like to share some details with some of my experiences with this club. First off the player fees are much lower then almost every other club that plays at a competitive level. Secondly, the coaching is top notch and they are there because of their passion for the game. And lastly, the families that bring their kids to play at this club are also the coolest families of any club out there. I consider this club our second family. In conclusion, the last point I want to make is the fact that we have a new director and his wife that work side by side and I can’t wait for the influential Class A coaching that the Director, Brian and his wife, Lauren will do for this club. Whether it’s in their RYSL League or on one of their competitive teams, you can rest assure you wont be wasting your time, money, and/or opportunities for next level play.
