The Bay School Community Arts Center is a nonprofit arts and education organization on Main Street in downtown Mathews that runs kids' summer art camps from June through August, offering roughly 27 sessions in a recent year. Camps cover 2D and 3D media including drawing and painting, ceramics, jewelry, stained glass, felting, basket-making and mixed media, and families enroll class by class rather than for the whole summer. Founded in 1997, the school runs 50+ youth classes and camps a year alongside its adult program and free community arts programming.

Bay School is absolutely wonderful. My child attended 3 art camps last summer and it was amazing. He was also in a play at the end of the summer with Bay School ! Such a great contribution to our society. The instructors had such a passion for art and the kiddos

My children have taken art classes here for the past three summers. The experience largely depends on the instructor. Some classes have been more enjoyable than others.

Fantastic arts center in this small town! Many artists and genres represented in this store. Some very nice arts and crafts pieces on display and for sale. I'm just sorry that the Sam Forrest pieces that were on display were not for sale! The women running the store were very knowledgeable and helpful. Well worth a look if you enjoy art or fine crafts and a great find on our drive along the Virginia coast.

Really enjoyed our visit here. The art pieces were lovely and priced for small and large budgets. I purchased a unique red and brown cup/vase to add to my Christmas decor. There were many beautiful pottery pieces to choose from. The staff there is friendly and folksy, and remembered me when I came back the next day. I hope to return to Mathews and the Bay School Community Art Center often.

Gorgeous place to buy art by local artists and learn about art.
