The Mary M. Torggler Fine Arts Center runs half-day summer art camps for ages 5-14 on the campus of Christopher Newport University in Newport News. Campers work in ceramics, painting and drawing plus digital art, photography, Procreate and 3D printing, led by experienced art educators. Sessions meet Monday-Thursday, either 9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m., and are open to the public by registration.

The center is fairly new and offers a beautiful venue for several art exhibitions. On this particular afternoon, we enjoyed a fantastic display of paper master crafts from many US and Canadian artists. The creations were mesmerizing! The details were fantastic and the variety was like none I had seen anywhere. Enjoy this free exhibit as it is truly a hidden gem!
