Asheville YMCA
Private
The Asheville YMCA, part of the YMCA of Western North Carolina, hosts the Y's summer day camps for children, including the theme-based Discovery Camp for rising first graders through age 12. Weekly sessions run through the summer with activities and field trips built around each week's theme, plus swimming at the branch. The nonprofit Y offers scholarships and financial assistance.

Powered by GoogleMy doctor recommended this facility to me—a place where he advised me to exercise in the pool. However, every time I visit, something has changed: either the lifeguards—specifically one woman—act arrogantly, telling me I can't do things that aren't even prohibited by the official rules, or they close the pool. They only keep it open for people like me for one hour—from 3:00 to 4:00 PM was my allotted time—because the trainers' session follows immediately after; yet, they would always try to kick me out by 3:45. Today, they initially said the pool would open at 3:15; then they changed it to 3:35, and finally to 3:45. I wasn't about to stand around waiting that entire time. They clearly lack communication and proper management. I hope they stop recommending this place to others the way they recommended it to me.
Did you know, as I recently found out, the Y is the number one daycare provider in our community? I have never had kids and I do know they're our future and providing appropriate activities, mental and physical fitness and socialization for our community's children, especially the underserved, is so important. I appreciate all the Y does for our community and encourage you to contribute your time and money, as I do, to help the Y with these endeavors.
My husband has been playing racquetball at this downtown facility since 1975 and in spite of 86 signatures on a recently posted list of members wanting to keep racquetball courts in new construction this request has been denied. All other facilities here are excellent.
Our twins have had a great experience with the YMCA swim lessons. The instructors have fantastic skills and energy. The classes are short, which is helpful for keeping it fun, and the activities are simple but fun for the kids. The younger groups lessons have been scheduled pretty late in the afternoon or early evening, which can be a challenge, but we've overall been very happy with this program.
I really enjoy Becca's chair yoga classes. It so helpful as I deal with mobility issues. My husband and our grandson love family time swimming immensely.
