Rules are not maintained consistently across the league. Referees are young, high school students who seem to be confused the majority of the time. Calls vary game to game. So much room for improvement.

Signed my youngest up for soccer. I was never notified of when soccer was starting so he started 3 weeks late. I wasn’t notified his FIRST day was a game & when we arrived the coach acted like he couldn’t play bc he wasn’t in uniform again WASN'T notified when soccer was supposed to start. Not to mention the girl referee was wearing shorts so short her bottom was hanging out. That’s not what should be coaching children. During playing the game the coach got frustrated with my son calling him out bc he would run to me to get his water on water break instead of to him (was his first time give him a break) they were yelling at him getting frustrated he was running the wrong goal. Again was his first time playing and it was a game he hadn’t had any practice before then!!! He was using hands shoving kids at first to get the ball which I was telling him not to do that. He was used to watching his brother play football so he didn’t understand. I then hear another parent say “stop pushing the kids” remind you he IS A KID!! He was like I said used to watching his brother play football. During break I was able to explain to him soccer is all feet not hands it’s not like football and after that he was fine. We tried attending the next practices and games after the hurricane sat in the cold rain and nobody was there but two people sitting in their car and I waited 32 minutes. I won’t be signing my kids back up through ABYSA and it’s such a disappointment because it was great when my oldest played.

The beautiful game inspires the building of individual .. family .. and community traits and skills essential to the betterment of all. ABYSA/HFC took all this to the right level a good while back and continues to provide the leadership needed for all of Western North Carolina via the leadership, staffing, and enrollment needed .. second to none. Briggs Sherwood ABYSA/HFC Founder and NC Soccer Hall of Fame Class of 2003.

Signed my six year old daughter up for soccer camp. This was her first experience so skill level was, well beginner. I contacted or rather made several calls before finally someone answered the phone. Could not leave message because the person I needed to speak with voice mail was full (Shane Weems). I finally after a couple more days received a call back. I expressed my concerns about my child's relative inexperience and asked if this camp would be a good fit. I was assured there would be several more in the same category and fundamentals and skill development would be top priority. We made it to first day of camp and nothing could have been further from the truth. Turned out to be chaos as coaches basically stood on sidelines watching as more experienced kids ran up and down field with ball as others followed and watched. I observed this for over two hours. Camp was for three hours a day. When I expressed my concerns to Mr Weems all I received in return was abject denial even though he was not even there. HUGE disappointment. My daughter who is six was demoralized so much she would not go back.
