This review is for Junior Academy (boys). Our experience: if your child is a top player they'll get attention and be placed on a higher level team. If your child is middling or has the potential to be stronger, but needs more training, ASA Junior Academy doesn't offer as much as one might wish. They don't really teach/focus on dribbling or ball handling skills and seem to focus on basic plays and formations. If you have the type of child who plays better with stronger players, but they're not a star themselves, and are on a team with others who are not stars, they could easily flounder and not get much better at all. If they don't mind being on the team that seems to be set up to get beat up on all the time, it might be ok at for them, if they just really love playing that much...We saw kids with potential who didn't get much additional coaching or any individual attention and they ended up leaving for other nearby options and have reported they like it much more, due to better individualized teaching and learning moments that have truly helped them improve as players. If you live in Del Ray and just want a close option in your neighborhood, then ASA Junior Academy is probably fine. For others, consider the inconvenient parking and practice hours (4:30 or 4:45 start time for boys) and whether that will work for you. The coaches and head organizer are nice. But don't think of Junior Academy as something that will boost your child's playing ability, unless they are individually super committed, have somewhere else to practice, and can make it to a team where they're exposed to what talented playing looks like. Run by nice people. Ultimately, an okay experience, but not enough to keep us with soccer. Feels like it could have been different, with more intensive and focused coaching.

Signed our 2 year old up for classes and they are very poor value. 30-minute classes and they usually are late to start but prompt to finish. Basically they do a few drills but only one is really soccer related (kick the ball). Classes are overpacked. Compared to other venues that offer toddler soccer classes this is ironically not even close to their level. We’ll be going back to.

Great experience so far with every coach and management. My kid feels so happy being part of this league. The summer camps were super helpful to support his soccer knowledge and skills. And the travel team coaches are super supportive and reliable. I highly recommend it.

Alexandria needs to organize their tournaments better. My child was playing in the Harvest Cup, he and some of his teammates were approved for the roster. After their team had won 2 games [3-1,5-1] my son and 4 other of the team players were told that they could no longer play because they were out of the age group. They didn't play the third game but their remaining teammates still won the game 5-0, this would eliminate one of the hosting teams (Alexandria), but AFTER they were secured a spot in the final, the director tells us that we were disqualified because those who weren't in the age group played the first two games. They had approved the roster 2 hours before the first game while our coach had sent them the roster 2 weeks before that. Why were they telling us this just now? They made us think that everyone on the team could play, they need to organize their things better. Also, after the disqualification, the Alexandria team that we beat 5-0 were awarded our 5 goals to go to the final. Where 2 of the Alexandria teams are the ones who happened to clash after we got disqualified, this is making us think that there is favoritism going on!
