I booked a pottery beginner session as a birthday surprise for my best friend with out any expectations of the outcome since it was my first time. I enjoyed the experience so much the instructor was kind Hilarious and very patient. I was hesitant at first since it was all new information but caught on very quick with his guidance. I had been thinking about taking a pottery class for many years now but often felt they were a bit out of my price range and not easily accessible. I live in the area and was curious about their pricing. I was very pleased with the fact that their intro course is $65 and are provided with everything you will need. The class was just me and two other people, which allowed for individualized instruction in between the group instruction. They explain everything thoroughly, from safety, to the physics of working with the clay, and proper body positioning. There were visuals on a white board which were helpful in visualizing how working with the clay works. The instructor guided you on how to position your hands, while also emphasizing that there are more than one way to do things. They emphasize having confidence in your movements and encourage firm decision making. Like others have mentioned, the instructor offers his help but makes it clear that he is only there to assist when wanted, not to take over your work. All questions are answered. If you have been thinking about trying out ceramics and have not had any experience before, I highly recommend their intro class, it was above all very fun and rewarding knowing you get to take something home. This class is taught in a way that is great for all kinds of learners, whether you are a hands-on, visual, or auditory learner, the instructor does a great job of explaining things in a way that caters to all of these styles. One thing to note - it is surprisingly an arm workout, but it felt great! I will come back in 2 weeks to glaze my pieces and I am highly considering taking their fundamentals course!
