The Youth Science Institute (YSI) is a Bay Area 501(c)(3) nonprofit (since 1953) running nature-based science summer day camps that combine science concepts with hiking, arts and crafts, games and live animal ambassadors. Camps operate out of YSI's nature centers at Alum Rock Park, Vasona Lake County Park and Sanborn County Park, with low camper-to-staff ratios and staff trained in child safety, CPR and first aid.

Powered by GoogleIt has free admission, and in addition to all the reptiles, it has an owl actively head-swiveling for visitors. Long ago, staff from here came to my elementary school to show kids a falcon. If you like wildlife, don't let the small building fool you, check it out !!
Great visitor's center for quick visits. They have a great taxidermy collection and a few live animals as well. The center is free to visit, and the staff have always been very welcoming. We appreciated speaking with a member of the staff about the history of the park and learned so much about about Alum Rock Park. We will definitely keep visiting!
Great little visitor center for kids There are taxidermied native animals and small animals in small displays.
I visited the Youth Science Institute at Alum Rock Park from the outside during a recent walk. The location is peaceful, well-integrated with nature, and appears very well maintained. Although I didn't enter the center, the surroundings gave a very positive impression. It looks like a great place for kids and families to learn and explore. Also, I noticed that clean restroom facilities are available nearby, which is a big plus for park visitors. Definitely worth coming back for a full visit!
Great educational center right near a parking lot. Both taxidermy and live animals inside.
