Powered by GoogleIn the past year, Jackson’s basketball IQ and overall game have grown more than I could have imagined. Huge credit to Joel Barkers and his team at You Reach I Teach — they’re the real deal.
First time visiting YRIT and it was a great experience. Coaches were friendly and willing to talk. Great pace in the “group training” we attended. Love the scrimmages with kids on his level. Definitely will be back!
Really impressed with the structure and setup of YRIT. The staff ratio is excellent and the kids get a lot of personalized attention. All the staff members are friendly and focused on working with the kids/athletes. The owner is very visible and does plenty of the coaching himself. The session format is well thought out with conditioning, structured skill training, and scrimmaging at the end. It feels like an elite training center that attracts high level athletes but also welcomes beginners and players coming in with different skill sets. They have a lot of different packages to choose from, depending on your budget-but it feels like a very good value, especially if you come frequently. The scheduling is also very flexible, which is great for busy families.
Any parent who wishes to help their child improve their basketball skills should consider using YRIT. My child's well being and his development as a basketball player are of the utmost importance to Joel and his team. There has been a tremendous improvement in my son's basketball skills. They are extremely friendly and helpful. It is a place where my son feels safe and as if he is at home.
Summary of Our Experience Classes last 1 hour, and the price depends on your level of commitment (single classes, memberships, or bundles). There are three levels: Basic, Advanced (intermediate), and Elite (highest). Placement is based on school grade, not skill level: elementary → Basic, middle school → Advanced, high school → Elite. This can work for some, but not for others. My son (middle school) is placed in Advanced but gets bored, in other academies, he’s usually in the top group. How classes work: Usually start a few minutes late. 10–12 minutes of warm-up for everyone. If you take two classes in a row, you warm up twice. Not very efficient. Another 10 minutes of basic ball drills. Still part of the warm-up. The real training lasts around 20 minutes, depending on the coach’s intensity. The last 20 minutes are scrimmages. Coaches rarely give feedback, it feels like their break time. The class ends exactly on the hour, with little to no feedback or follow-up. Overall: I completed a 10-class pass, and my conclusion is: If your child wants to train seriously and improve, this may not be the best option. If your child just wants to have fun and pass the time, it’s fine. My son loves basketball, but he doesn’t enjoy this academy, he gets bored. Suggestions for improvement: Skip the long warm-ups, students want to get into action right away. Are kids! Group players by skill level, not just by age. During the final scrimmage, coaches should guide and give feedback instead of stepping back. This is my general impression. Some coaches are better than others, it’s a matter of luck, though it shouldn’t be.
