The receptionist/counterworker named Mary was so rude to me and my parents that we decided to cancel our membership for good and never attend the YMCA again. She should not be working there and should do some tai chi herself to brighten her mood. She should be fired

The YMCA mission statement: "To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all". I fully support the YMCA for all of the wonderful things the organization offers to their respective communities. This particular establishment seems to have taken the Christian values the YMCA was founded upon, and twisted them into something profoundly sad. Extremely rude director, went above and beyond to leave the building to confront me about using one of the three empty handicap parking spaces. I am NOT a member, but I am disabled. I park in the disabled parking space when their regular lot is full to walk my service animal around the quiet neighborhood. I need the extra room provided by the larger space to allow my service animal the necessary space to safety egress and enter my vehicle. I only use the space for about 45 minutes, and only when they are unoccupied by any vehicles. I explained that Virginia law allows the use of any handicapped space to be utilized by a properly tagged vehicle for a period of 4 hours. She rudely stated that this particular YMCA is considered private property due to them not needing government money to operate. (They do however enjoy non profit status) not to mention free property taxes on a facility assessed at over 4 million dollars. Being a resident of Franklin County, I cannot imagine how a portion of my recently doubled property taxes does not benefit this particular establishment in some way. I'm just remembering something I was told as a child. Nothing in the world is free but air and sunshine. When I tried to assert the area is not marked as private property. This rude director said " there will be a sign tomorrow " and began to question what my disability was. This director had a very condescending demeanor and spoke to me with frustration and disgust in her voice leaving me to feel like I was scum and embarrassed. Through a FOIA request, I did indeed discover that Franklin County does in fact list this property as a public right of way. I spoke with the CEO located at the Rocky Mount YMCA to bring this matter to his attention, again I was told the facility is private property, and that " we can have whomever we want to be allowed on the property or not " however he said would look into the situation and " get back to me " that was weeks ago. And no response. I am lucky to be alive, but due to my disabilities my life has been changed forever. I really look forward to walking my service animal, and performing my physical therapy while walking. Unfortunately, walking on gravel, and uneven surfaces is beyond my capacity, hence the need for a paved parking space. While I am happy the facility is located where it is, and provides a great service to the community, I am left soured by the treatment received. I will not be using this particular establishment for any purpose going forward, but felt compelled to share this experience and unnecessary treatment from an organization with "Christian" values.

There is a good variety of exercise equipment, and it's in good condition. The changing room is clean and has personal care items available if needed. The walking track is nice. Pickle ball is very popular, but I haven't tried to play.

Great facility, love the indoor gym/tennis courts, they let me use the boxing bags when there isn’t anyone in that studio, decent weight lifting equipment, and everyone that works there is so nice and helpful. It is a very welcoming place compared to my last two gyms. Now I have played some pickleball there as well and 95% of everyone is nice during that as well! It is usually super quiet to workout until about 5:15. Around 2, there is usually only one or two other people in the weight lifting area!

Love this place! Staff is professional and friendly, facility is clean and up to date. The classes have excellent instructors. Child care area has lots to do for little ones, and our kids really love Ms. Wendy, she's fantastic with the kids.
