The City of Roanoke's Parks and Recreation department (PLAY Roanoke) runs summer camps including an all-day Summer P.L.A.Y. program, Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., with sports and games, guest instructors, arts and crafts and field trips. Specialty outdoor camps include Outdoor Exploration Camp (ages 8-11) and Big Adventure Camp (ages 12-14) with hiking, ropes, ziplining, caving, climbing and water sports, plus a Mountain Biking Camp.

★★★★★Terry HartleyI went to Explore Park on Friday night and listened to live music on the lawn of Brugh Tavern. It was incredibly enjoyable. My husband, friends, and I have visited many venues to hear music and Explore Park is by far the best location in the area. There is ample parking, lots of shade, plenty of lawn space and many tables. The location is ideal for couples on a date or families with children to enjoy a nice evening. The food at Brugh Tavern was delicious and the libations from Twin Creeks Brewery are amazing as usual. My only complaint is that this venue is under utilized! Please have music at Explore Park more than once a month and also consider extending the schedule into October!
