I love so much about this Y: the equipment in the weight and cardio rooms is good. The public spaces are clean. Folks are friendly. My big complaint and the reason for only 3 stars is the mediocre group classes. I have tried so many classes and over and over again I find the same thing: uninspiring playlists and instructors who just shouted out instructions with scarce reminders for how to do things correctly and safely. I have yet to find an instructor who seemed to be excited about what they’re doing.Sure, lots of people show up for these classes because this is all that we have, but honestly, the classes are much better at a place like LA fitness which costs about the same. I wish that the management here would start attending some of the classes to see how truly uninspiring they are.

I’ve been going to this gym for about a year now and I was intentional about joining a Y because I wanted to join and gym that felt welcoming, familiar, and had a sense of community. This Y happens to have all three. There is something particularly beautiful about intergenerational spaces and coming to this Y it is just that, folks of all age groups in sharing a space together to work out. While there is one update I’d like to see (the women’s sauna), I love the building as it is and the historic aspect of the gym so hope they maintain that structure for the near future.

Okay so I have been going to this gym for a bit, and I gathered a few pros and cons. Pros: 1. The welcoming atmosphere The front desk people are very welcoming, and are so nice! I had a little bit of trouble finding where the entrance was when I was coming here for the first time, and I called the front desk and they were so helpful. All the questions I asked, were answered and in a polite manner 2. The diverse community Overall, this YMCA has all ages of people, I have seen toddlers but have also seen elderly. There are lots of teens especially in the weight rooms and basketball court. I would definitely say this a good place to socialize and make yourself a friend! 3. The variety of activities and machines This YMCA has tons of machines, it has two weight rooms, a stretch room (18+), and a circuit room. Both weight rooms have so many machines and I was surprised to see that they have a hip thrust machine which is definitely fun to hear! Also there are a wide range of activities such as court sports including but not limited to: squash, pickleball, racquetball, basketball, etc. There are also two pools, one that is supposedly small but I find it average size, and another pool that is Olympic sized (aka the large pool.) They also offer a swim team for ages 6 to highschool! And also they offer a sauna which is located in the adult locker rooms! 4. Affordability Depending on the membership you pick, it will vary the prices obviously. However, the prices seem to be quite affordable and the membership includes everything, (pool, machines, circuit room, indoor track, boxing room, athletic performance lab, court sports, etc.) Cons: 1. The building could use some remodeling The building is not as modern as it could be, you pay for what you get. This place definitely has an old school vibe, which I personally do not see as a negative thing, but I can see how some people may not appreciate this. 2. Hard to find entrance First time you may have trouble figuring out where to enter but they will help you! And after you find it, it just becomes habit. If you park in the parking deck it’s basically right next to the parking deck! So I can see how that’s convenient. Overall a very good place, it’s quite affordable and I would recommend all the activities it has to offer! This place is my favorite, and I love how it’s surrounded by so many restaurants, places to go, and even a Pilates!

Montclair school age childcare is the best. The staff are professional and caring. You never feel worried when your child is in their care.

Friendly staff, but there was a roach in the pool and another on the way out. I told two staff members, one said "they love it in the gutters" and the other said "yeah we know". I canceled immediately.
