I love the convenience of it being close by it's well maintained as far as cleaniness but just one thing bothers me every time I go in to the pool area. the thing is the YMCA suppose to be somewhere safe clean you can bring children to learn to swim and also have a healthy lifestyle and they say they look out for the children but one major overlook is the kids pools has nothing preventing anyone from outside walking by to watch your young children half dressed in a pool they can see clearly enough to get clear pics of ur lil one swimming. With so much happening to our children I feel this a huge lack of consideration of the children and exposed them to to many addicts predators and anything else . One picture of ur child can spread across the Internet like crazy, it's not hard to protect the children but after sever comments to them sad nothing could be done yet to avoid it. You say you look out for the kids but lack of acknowledgement and not being accountable is the reason I'd never bring no children there to swim and that's sad it beautifully done 😠

Not a community based organization since they've relocated. Many members did not renew but sought other facilities. Locker rooms are much smaller. No hot tub privacy. No day passes. In order for someone to assist with after school pgm they are subjected to a background check. I submitted app for it 3 wks ago and still have not heard back from the director for authorization! The care and quality of staff and service are lacking in authenticity and warmth.

I am writing as a member who genuinely appreciates the vision and investment that went into the new downtown YMCA of Greater Flint facility. The building itself is beautiful. It has the potential to be one of the premier YMCA locations in the country. However, I am concerned about a consistent pattern of maintenance and operational issues. For three consecutive mornings at 7:00 AM, every bathroom in the building has been unclean. This suggests that either overnight cleaning is not occurring at an acceptable standard or there is no early morning quality control process in place. The basketball courts are regularly dusty and slippery. On brand new courts, this presents both a safety concern and a visible sign of neglect. The nets already appear worn, and the basketballs provided are in poor condition. For a facility of this caliber, especially one associated with high level community engagement, that is disappointing. The pool area is also visually impressive, yet the hot tub is frequently closed. Consistency matters when members choose a facility. I travel often and use YMCA locations across the country. While the downtown Flint building may be one of the nicest structurally, the operational standards currently do not match the quality of the facility. I am sharing this not to criticize for the sake of criticism, but because this location has the potential to be exceptional. Flint deserves a YMCA that reflects pride, consistency, and excellence in execution, not just design. I would appreciate knowing what steps are being taken to address these concerns.

As an Occupational therapist who works with adults with physical disabilities, I was very disappointed at the lack of disability inclusion in the family locker room and pool setup. There are larger changing rooms that could be wheelchair accessible, but there are no tables or seats in them for a disabled person to get out of their wheelchair to change, other than the toilet. The pool has a chair lift, but the only zero depth area is the kiddie pool/splash pad, so a wheel chair using individual would most likely require assistance to access the pool unless they were very strong and independent both in the water and out. A building that was purpose built from the ground up for the use of the community could have done a MUCH better job planning for the needs of the WHOLE community. That said, if you're able bodied, the facility is beautiful and clean with a nice variety of classes offered.

This is the new YMCA gym in Flint, and it's impressive. Although they haven't finished updating everything yet, the place is incredibly spacious, modern, and equipped with the latest training machines. They also have several designated areas for different activities, which allows for a wide range of options to stay active. While they're still working on the pool and sauna area, what they've done in the gym is really excellent. The investment in infrastructure and technology is notable, and it's clear they're committed to providing a high-quality space for their members. However, I think they could do a better job with their social media, sharing more information, images, and updates to keep their followers informed and engaged. It would be great to see more content about their activities and events, as well as member and staff testimonials.
