XC Art Center, founded in 2008 as the Xiaowei Chen Art Studio, is a selective-enrollment art school at 330 West Cummings Park in Woburn that runs a spring and summer art camp alongside its year-round programs. Its core is skills-based training - fundamental art and pre-competition classes, intensive competitive art training, and art portfolio development for private school and university applications - supplemented by a photography bootcamp and independent studio workshops. Teaching emphasizes art appreciation, observation and self-expression, with guest lectures, exhibition opportunities and trips to studios, galleries and museums.

My 11-year-old daughter has been studying at XC Art Center with Xiaowei, and the experience has been truly exceptional. Under Xiaowei's guidance, my daughter has developed a much deeper understanding of art—not only in technique, but also in how to think creatively and express ideas. Her artistic skills have improved significantly in a relatively short time, with noticeable growth in both detail and originality. What I appreciate most is that she has also developed a strong interest in exploring different forms of art. She is more curious, more confident, and genuinely excited about creating. We are very grateful for the inspiring and supportive environment at XC Art Center.

Great place for kids interested in various forms of art. The founder director of the XC arts center, Xioawei is so welcoming and very interactive with the parents and kids. My kid joined this arts center few months ago and he loves coming here on Saturday’s for the sessions. On top of it, Jeff is very flexible and friendly helping us with admin stuff, such as arranging makeups or rescheduling the classes. Over all, love this place.

I just want to share how much we love the XC Art Center. I drive my son all the way from Quincy, MA — about 40 minutes each way (sometimes even longer with traffic) — just so he can take his art class there. We’ve been doing this for a year and a half now, and we plan to keep going. My son absolutely loves the teachers. They don’t just teach art skills — they inspire him to think creatively and express his own ideas through his work. I think that’s so important for kids: learning how to use art not just to draw or paint, but to really express themselves. We also really appreciate how flexible and thoughtful the office is. Our family loves skiing, so we miss classes in the winter, but rescheduling is super easy. They have an online page that lists all available classes — you just pick a new time that works for you, and you’re all set.

-Former student She has been a truly fantastic teacher who worked hard to understand me as a person, my interests, and my style, and she guided me so my art began to reflect who I am. Over the years my technical skills improved dramatically. When I decided to stop competing a few years ago she supported that choice and continued to help me explore my interests through the lens of art. Now in college I no longer attend her classes, but she remains an amazing friend and mentor. I still draw frequently, and thanks to her I feel confident embarking on pieces entirely on my own. Overall 10/10 would recommend. Doesn't matter if you're trying to win awards or just to become a better artist. Please see some of my pieces attached. Some are done under her guidance and others completely on my own!

We’ve been learning art at this studio for a year now, and I can confidently say it’s the best art training center in Boston. The classroom environment is elegant and beautifully designed, with high-quality facilities that create a truly inspiring space for kids to learn. From a parent’s perspective, the management is excellent. They use a professional software system that makes it easy to track class schedules, request absences, or reschedule lessons—all very convenient and efficient. But what truly sets this place apart is the quality of the teachers. My daughter has attended three different art institutions, and this is by far her favorite. The teachers here are not only talented artists but also deeply understand child development and education. They know how to tailor their guidance to each student’s needs, helping kids create impressive competition pieces and school application portfolios. I’ve witnessed many students win awards and grow tremendously here. The founder is someone with great vision and heart. Her goal isn’t just to teach kids how to draw, but to use art as a starting point for personal growth and exploration. With all the programs and opportunities they provide, this place truly lives up to its reputation as the No.1 art studio in Boston!
