West End Academy of Dance (WEAD) is a 40-year-old neighborhood dance studio on Ridgefield Parkway running week-long themed summer camps from mid-June through mid-August. Campers aged 3-8 attend half-day camps, 9am-12pm, themed around Peppa Pig, Bluey, Angelina Ballerina, a summer garden, Disney and Candy Land, mixing daily ballet, jazz and hip hop with arts and crafts, creative movement games, story time and an end-of-week showcase. Dancers aged 9-18 attend longer 9am-2pm or 9am-3pm camps - Sleeping Beauty, Christmas in July, Broadway Bound and a Giselle ballet boot camp - with ballet technique, variations, repertoire and master classes; several of these are restricted by level. A K-Pop-inspired hip hop boot camp serves ages 7-11.

They have gone above and beyond to make sure that their students have opportunities to practice and perform while maintaining strict guidelines to keep everyone safe and healthy. All of the teachers here are professional and extremely talented. The recitals are actually enjoyable from start to finish, which was a pleasant surprise. I have been to many performances put on by other dance schools where it feels like a chore to sit through the entire show just to see your dancer perform their piece. That is not the case here. I would gladly have attended and fully enjoyed the entire show even if my child wasn't in it at all!
