I have my son currently registered for this league. I have heard mixed reviews over the years, but the most detailed review from 5 years back seems to be consistent with my experience. I was going to just go with the Y, but after my son attended a “Soccer in the Community” clinic, he expressed wanting to join this league. I am a veteran sports mom, so I am used to, and I like structure and strong communication, as that is what I have experienced in the past with other leagues. My daughter played for Northside Soccer, Glendale Soccer, was on the middle school soccer team and played rugby from middle to high school. My son has been playing various sports since the age of 3 and is now 8. We have experience with First Baptist, TAB Rec and FC Pride Rec and Elite leagues. My main issues/concern is the inconsistent communication from the coordinators. I have had to be the one to reach out to find out information about roster, practice times, etc. Although my son is assigned to a team and Coach information is displayed, there is no way to communicate with the coach. Practices were due to start 1-2 weeks before the first game. The first game is to occur this Saturday and I have yet to receive any communication from my son’s coach. It is Wednesday, so I am hoping to at least get one practice in before the game this Saturday. This has been a negative experience so far. There is also a roster freeze in place. So, I can only assume that there aren’t enough volunteer coaches for all the children registered. We will most likely not return to this league next season, as I am a strong proponent of structure and USAI doesn’t seem to have it in place. I have added some bulleted points below for other parents to be aware of before registering for this league. • There are no refunds. Exceptions are made for injuries before mid-season (i.e., 5/1 and 10/1) and when there is no roster spot for wait listed players. Often refunds are prorated. Refunds are charged an administrative fee of between 20%-50%. Due to time constraints, all refunds are made after the season. • When registering your child or children, there is a $30 "volunteer buyout”. So, you must either pay an extra $30 or agree to volunteer at minimum 3 hours during the season to prep fields, concession etc. When I looked into this league in prior years, this is one of the reasons I was a bit turned off. Other leagues don’t have this requirement. And if what the previous reviewer/parent Harold stated is true about the director making 100K from club revenues. Why not cut some of his salary and just hire hourly employees? USAI has some room for improvement. As I previously stated, I chose this league mainly because my son expressed the desire to join it, also it is closer to my home and there aren’t many other leagues doing Spring soccer now. But in the future, I will choose FC Pride, Northside Soccer, or my local Y.

Central organizers are inconsistent with communications and send out too many emails. Fileds at Mary and John Geisse soccer complex are very good however. They need to improve on their website as it is hard to navigate for needed info. Very little help or guidance provided for Tots program. Additionally, asking parents to volunteer time to tend the fields, staff the concessions, perform other duties or pay a $30 "volunteer buyout" to not help is greedy considering they pay the "director" $100k out of the $1.1 million in total revenue for the club. Why not reduce his grossly excessive salary by $20k and just hire hourly staff to support the program and allow parents to enjoy soccer with their kids?? His salary is almost 10% of ALL club revenues... seriously.
