Tom Taylor Family YMCA

Branch of the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties running summer day camp in Gig Harbor. Weekly camp sessions include crafts with paper, craft sticks, tiles and clay; hands-on science; rock climbing with safety instruction and challenges; and water games in the pool and on the grass. Sessions are grouped by age, including a half-day Itty Bitty camp for ages 3-4 that checks in at 8:30 a.m. and out at noon. Camp also runs at additional locations beyond the branch; member and community-member rates differ.

Google Reviews
Powered by GoogleI want to be clear that I am reviewing this specific YMCA location, not the YMCA organization as a whole. Two weeks ago, I was at the playground across the street with my mother, my 3-year-old son, and my 1-year-old daughter. I briefly left to run an errand at Costco with my daughter and accidentally forgot to leave my YMCA membership card with my mom. While I was gone my son urgently needed to use the restroom and the playground restrooms were flooded. My mother took him to this YMCA and asked if they could quickly use the bathroom. Unfortunately, the staff member at the front desk refused to let them in without proof of membership. As a result, my 3-year-old son ended up wetting his pants. I understand that facilities are generally reserved for members, and I respect that policies exist for a reason. However, this is supposed to be a family-friendly community organization. I find it very disappointing that no exception was made for a toddler having a genuine bathroom emergency, especially when accompanied by a 60-year-old grandmother simply asking to help him use the restroom. The lack of compassion shown in that moment was enough for me to cancel my membership. Policies matter, but so does common sense and basic kindness.
Love this place but wasted $50 on a month with our 4 year old as classes were booked and nothing worked we could accommodate and we had to cancel without getting one class in. Younger kids should cost less than $50/month and with classes booking out on day one of registration there just isn’t enough availability unfortunately. Also their online system will show availability but when you try to sign up it shows a waitlist. This makes it nearly impossible to properly plan a class for multiple kids.
This y is a beautiful place to go but only if you like pickleball as there is rarely a time or available space on the actual court to play basketball. It’s been only about the 98th time of attempting to take my kids to play ball just to find out our money is being wasted because of lack of available space. The YMCA’s should be more children focused as that is the reason the organization exists. This was at the Tom Taylor gig harbor location Update!! Second day in a row trying to take my children to thE YOUNG men’s Cristian association only to not be able to use the main courts because of the retired XL ping pong classic taking place there I find it hard to believe there isn’t a way to better utilize the main gym but I suppose the higher paying older customers take priority over the youth.
Holy wow. I split my time between Gig Harbor and West Seattle. I have been going to the West Seattle and Fauntleroy YMCAs for years and always thought they were nice. Visited Tom Taylor for the first time in December and my jaw was on the floor. This gym is not only gorgeous but it has everything! The hip thrust machines are a lifesaver and I’ve also been enjoying the arm extension machine which is not available at the Seattle Ys. The newer, higher quality equipment feel SO much better on my joints and I’ve been able to hit so many PRs here that I haven’t been able to reach at the other Ys. The facility in general is very well organized, I love the track on the second floor which basically gives you a full tour of the building. And not to mention the staff! They are so helpful and nice.
This YMCA is large and well organized. They have a great pool, indoor walking track, lots of classes for all ages, large weight lifting area and lots of aerobic machines. All of these are kept clean and in good working condition. The staff are friendly and helpful. It is a pleasure to be a member here.
