Thrive STEAM Enrichment runs Camp Wild Heart, a drop-in, self-directed STEAM day camp in Chico for children ages 5-11. Full days (about 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday through the summer) let campers choose among hands-on STEAM experiments, arts and crafts, outdoor and water play, and group games and team-building. Enrollment is flexible: families buy day packages and pick which days to attend, and the days need not be consecutive.

The site is awesome, with several indoor rooms to keep them entertained during the hottest hours but there is still outdoor options too. In the months that followed I was continually impressed by the kind, open hearts of the instructors and the classic, down to earth environment they provided, reminiscent of my own 1980’s Chico childhood. Before her first year at Thrive ended, my daughter began begging me to get a job there… she could not get enough. I jumped at the chance to be a part of a program that honored and valued children as the vital members of society that they are and am so grateful to have been brought onto the team. I have been an instructor at Thrive for a year now and am still amazed at how my daughter and I are so equally nourished and empowered by the culture that is cultivated here. The freedom to learn and grow and practice and play has become a luxury that not many children get to experience these days, but it is alive and well and available to all at Thrive STEAM Enrichment Center.
