Staff is great and the pool is great, when it’s open. I tried to go twice during regularly scheduled hours this week on Wednesday and Friday and the pool was closed. I found out it was closed on Wednesday thanks to a sign on the front door. On Friday, I found out it was closed after getting dressed to swim and discovering a white board by the pool entrance saying it closed at 12PM. I have a membership to use the pool and pay a good amount for that, so it’s frustrating to be turned away twice in one week. A text chain or email notification about pool closures would be great so members don’t find out upon arrival to the facility that they can’t use the amenities.
Ms. Marie is the best and most patient swim instructor. She got our son to overcome his water sensory aversion and he now goes under water! She even helped him with some 1:1 instructions because he was just not getting comfortable. 10/10, better than goldfish btw, we tried there first and in our opinion Thelma Lovette has better instructors, and it's nice how you can sit on bleachers next to the pool (vs goldfish where you are not allowed in pool area beyond baby class). Ms. Erin is also amazing, and was very patient and kind with our screaming son. Plus this Y has a lovely vibe, even the reception staff are friendly. Prices are beyond reasonable even for non-members. The lifeguards pay good attention to the learners, I saw one jump in and lift up a preschooler who had lost her footing and gone under. They constantly remind lesson kids to keep one hand on the wall when waiting for their turns which is good safety protocol. Our only criticism is they need more classes! A+! Please give your swim staff some bonuses and keep them around, what a gem for the community. Our son took maybe 14 sessions of swim so we are confident in our praise.
Many free class options with membership. New beautiful facility. Family friendly and affordable. Thelma Lovette YMCA also currently have a diverse competitive swim team for children @6yrs to 18yrs old! Family membership also includes free daycare for young children while you use the facility! I found that option very helpful so I could work out when my girls were young. Free parking and safe!
Wonderful staff! Very caring and treat everyone with respect. Wish more attention paid to some maintenance issues and cleaning in the locker room. The Y seems to be consistent with deferred maintenance in all their facilities.
