theCoderSchool is a national coding-school franchise, founded in Silicon Valley in 2014 and now over 70 locations, that teaches kids ages 7 to 18 to code in Python, Scratch, JavaScript and more through private and low-ratio classes. Its Berkeley location is at 1385 Shattuck Avenue, Suite C, Berkeley. Summer camps run five days with three hours of instruction a day, offered as a morning or an afternoon block and taught in person at the school. Camp themes span video game development, robotics, Minecraft, Roblox, JavaScript with HTML/CSS and mobile game development, with roughly six campers per instructor and camps usually taught by the school's year-round Code Coaches.

The Coder School is a gift to the community! They are kind, patient and wonderful with all kinds of kids. My 8 year old has been going there for a year and looks forward to his lesson every week! Thanks, Coder School!

Code Coaching at the Coder School really helped to develop our kid's passion for coding and their ability to make their ideas concrete. Lynna worked with us on a special request (a specific programming language and interest in pro game design) and took the time to get to know our kid and match them with after school coaches that would be a great fit. If you have a kid who wants to learn more about how to write code in an environment filled with other kids who are also excited about code projects, I highly recommend the Coder School.

My 8 year old wanted to learn coding so we tried a trial session at the coder school and immediately knew it was a good fit. The coaches have all made my shy kid feel comfortable, the admin have been great at communication when we need to make a schedule change, and the flexibility to take make up classes (rather than just lose out on a session when traveling or ill) is so helpful. But best of all, my kid looks forward to this class so much each week. I also love the notes I get from the coaches after classes summarizing the skills they worked on. Recently, we tried a remote class (because my son didn’t want to miss his coding classes while on vacation!) and I was in awe listening to how he and the coach discussed and analyzed the game he was building. Whether or not he pursues coding later in life, I believe that the critical thinking being practiced at the coder school will benefit my son greatly.

We're so glad we started our 11 year old son at Coder School! The facility is terrific, location is convenient, and the instructors do a great job with communicating. There was a week where our child had to do his lesson remotely and they made the adjustment smoothly, and we really appreciate the post-session notes. Our son loves to learn at Coder School: we're even doing the summer camp! If you have a child who is interested in coding, this is a great place to get them involved.

Teachers are enthusiastic, knowledgeable, fun. Curriculum & schedule are balanced and fast-paced. My son had a great time in virtual camp one week in summer 2021 and wants to do it again! The whole school is very well organized, with great daily updates about what the kids did, and thoughtful individual attention. Super organization with great values! Thank you!!
