Piedmont Players Theatre, an award-winning nonprofit founded in 1961, runs summer theatre camps at its Norvell Youth Theater, 135 E. Fisher St. in downtown Salisbury. The junior-high through high-school session is a two-week intensive (roughly June 29-July 10, 9am-3pm, about $350) covering character study, cold readings, scene work, stage movement and vocal performance, ending in a showcase. A separate week-long production camp for K through high school rehearses and stages a full show such as Alice in Wonderland Jr., ending in a performance for family and friends.

I saw Seussical, Jr., an abbreviated version of Seussical the Musical based on Dr. Seuss books. It was the culmination of a children's 1-week "summer camp" and I was amazed at the quality of the performance. I'm not sure, but I think it was elementary and middle school students in the cast. It was hard to believe they had only worked on the play for a week. The leads were phenomenal and I hope they continue in acting. Their acting abilities and singing voices were incredible. It was evident that the director knew how to get the best possible from his student actors. It's the first time I saw a student theater performance at the Norvell but I can guarantee it won't be the last. Brovo!

We had a phenomenal time! This was our first visit to this youth theater. They did an amazing job on the production of this play. The theater itself is well maintained. Bathrooms are nice. The concessions are fairly priced and the seating these staggered and comfortable

Just saw Caroline Monroe as Miss Honey in the production of Matilda. She along with a very talented cast of youngsters from Rowan County were very engaging & entertaining, while hitting their marks at every turn! Was very impressed and can't wait to see the productions this cast pops up in next!

I love this place. My daughter did one of the theater camps again for the second year. At the end of each week they put on a play. The kids themselves wrote the play! My daughter can’t wait for camp next. Im excited for some of the shows coming up!!
