The Exceptional Foundation, a Birmingham-area nonprofit based in Homewood, runs a summer day camp for school-age children with intellectual disabilities. More than 100 participants are split into age-appropriate groups for swimming, music, cooking, science, art, and adaptive P.E., beginning each morning with social-skills time. The foundation has served individuals with special needs since 1993.

Powered by GoogleI am disappointed with the lack of communication I have experienced. Since March, I have made multiple phone calls and sent several emails seeking information about youth programs and enrollment. Unfortunately, I have not received a response from the youth director. I also reached out to a supervisor, who informed me that someone would contact me after the organization’s two-week closure. It is now June, and I still have not received any follow-up communication. I understand that organizations can be busy, but timely communication is important, especially when families are trying to enroll youth in programs and make plans. I hope this feedback encourages improvements in customer service and responsiveness for future families
They aren't open to new people. I tried talking to them about what would benefit my level 3.asd nonverbal ADHD son and they would not reply after one email. Seems extremely political. I will take any suggestions on enrollment of a 6.year old boy with special needs in any sport, this is not the place as they don't reply
I was at the chili cook off today over here on at the Urban center and, this is for the exceptional foundation this was absolutely amazing. Had such a great time I volunteered because it was a good cause I don't volunteered and did some trash pickup, this was a really really amazing event. Thank you guys for hosting this and wish you nothing but the best of luck and you guys remember prayers
I volunteered there for many years. This place is extremely special and magical. The staff is wonderful and the children and adults who go here are so amazing. If your child has special needs I couldn’t recommend a better place for them to be. It’s truly a family here.
This place is amazing & the people all around an absolute blessing. My daughter goes & I can't say enough in words to really explain what this place and people mean to me and my family.
