CourtSense at Tenafly Racquet Club runs an indoor junior tennis day program for players ages 5-18, from beginners to advanced competitors. Campers get roughly 2.5 hours of tennis plus 30 minutes of fitness each day — about 15 hours of training a week — in morning or afternoon sessions, with a 4:1 player-to-coach ratio and PlaySight video review for each player. The club has eight fully air-conditioned indoor courts with UVGI air sanitising, and players are grouped by level with an emphasis on fundamentals, strategy and fun.

The facility feels outdated, and unfortunately the same can be said for the customer service experience. One important policy that isn’t clearly communicated upfront is the lack of makeup sessions. This only becomes apparent after enrolling and paying for clinics, which is frustrating—especially given that the fees are above industry averages. Communication overall is lacking. There is little to no advance notice about schedule changes, holiday closures, or school breaks. This can result in showing up to a closed facility, and if your family’s schedule doesn’t align with theirs, the burden falls entirely on you. The coaching staff themselves are not the issue, but the front desk operations and overall management approach feel behind the times and could benefit from modernization and better organization. Overall, the experience has been disappointing and not reflective of the cost. It ended up being more frustrating than rewarding, which is unfortunate because I genuinely wanted this to be a positive experience.

We had a terrible experience with CourtSense Tenafly. Our son joined mid-autumn term. Geoff, who arranged his placement into a particular class, told us that a spot was held for our son and that we could either pay weekly as a walk-on or for the rest of the term. We were under the impression that the spot would be held regardless of which option we chose. We decided to do walk-on for a few weeks. Last Friday, I received a voicemail from Leah saying: “We were just wondering because we also have a spot held for him weekly since he does the walk-ons. But we were wondering if he wanted to commit for the rest of the season. The last day of the fall is December 14th, and then we can always re-enroll him for the winter as well. So please give us a call back if you’d like to do a permanent spot, because if not, we unfortunately would have to sell the spot to another child. Please give us a call back by end of day today by 5:30 PM.” The message was left at 11:57 a.m., and I called back at 12:01 p.m. to confirm that we would commit to the rest of the term. I was told that the payment would be processed since they already had our credit card details, and that we would receive the invoice and confirmation later. Leah’s voicemail further confirmed to us that a spot was being held for our son. When no email arrived, I called again two days later, on Sunday, to make sure everything had been processed. I spoke with Matthew and explained my conversation with Leah. He said the payment hadn’t yet been processed but the spot was still available. He then completed the payment and sent me a confirmation email that same day. However, on Monday, I received a call from Geoff saying he had double-booked another child into the class, so our son would have to be removed. Instead of being apologetic, some of his direct quotes are: “We are humans. Humans make mistakes. Only computers don’t make mistakes.” “We would never have this problem if Leah didn’t call you. She called as a courtesy only, and the spot was never held for your son.” This experience was not only poorly handled but also unprofessional. Our son had been in that class for a few weeks already, but now he’s no longer able to participate because they sold his spot to another child due to their mistakes. We confirmed, paid, and acted in good faith. Legally, the contract is binding once the payment is processed, and CourtSense is expected to honor it. If they chose to cancel or breach the agreement, they should have offered remedies, not excuses.

CourtSense has been an incredible experience for our son. Jeremy and staff have done a tremendous job in helping him improve his game

Well maintained courts and locker room. Court lights were bright. Indoor temperature was just right. Not too hot or not too cold.

The coaches are fine, the facilities are ok-honestly for the premium charges, the facilities are below average. The management is the worst. They never return calls, don't even bother leaving a note with the reception, they have no idea what they are doing or saying. I called them 3 times and got 3 different contradicting answers. Again, compared to the ridiculous fees they charge, they are absolutely horrendous. They don't value your business and they make it obvious by not even bothering to give you a call back. Poor customer service at its finest.
