Strand Tennis Center runs an indoor junior tennis summer camp at 40 Watchung Avenue in Chatham across 11 weeks from mid-June to early September. The camp day runs 9:15am-12:00pm Monday to Friday and covers warm-up and stretching, daily forehand, backhand, volley and overhead drills, an off-court craft and snack break, and on-court games, with themed Fridays and target contests. The main camp takes ages 4-12 (weeks 1-2 are ages 4-8 only) and a separate High Intensity Tennis Training camp covers ages 13-18; Wednesdays include optional rock climbing at the adjacent Gravity Vault. Daily drop-ins are welcome by arrangement and a private lesson can be added on from 12:00-1:00pm.

Powered by GoogleAnother reason why I left Strand Tennis Center is because someone spread a rumor about me throughout the entire club that I was some kind of “loose woman” which is not true. I’m actually a lesbian and have never been a loose woman. I don’t care what the rumor says, I’m NOT a loose woman and I’m still a lesbian. I will never return to Strand Tennis Center.
Taking adult tennis lessons at Strand Tennis Center was awful. I was happy to actually learn the basics of how to play tennis and get a new hobby as an adult. that part went well. However, I was not treated well as the only African American lady and the only lesbian in the lesson group. I was also frequently felt left out and completely disrespected every time I showed up for a lesson. Taking adult tennis lessons to learn a new hobby somewhere else.
Nice place. Very spacious. Cool staff. Good balls and rentals. Very high ceiling. Parking is good. Nice vending machine. Cool lobby.
Beautiful facility. Great coaches. My son enjoys his class and has shown improvement. The front desk is poorly run. The Make Up policy is ridiculous. My son was vomiting in the car ride to his lesson. I called to let them know he is sick and won’t be there. Stephanie informed me he could make up the class. All I had to do is fill out a make up form. This is the email I received today, Hi there, Thank you for submitting this form! Our Make Up Policy details that notice of an absence must be provided more than 24 hours in advance of the scheduled activity for players to receive a make up. Unfortunately, we did not receive advanced notice of Andrews absence yesterday, June 1st, making him unfortunately able to do a make up. So since he didn’t get sick 24 hrs in advance he can’t make up the class! My options were to drop him off sick or lose money for the lesson. This is ridiculous! Insensitive and not flexible. Management is poor and this policy is ridiculous. Hire the coaches privately and play at a public court.
I really like Strand especially the fact that they are not a membership based place , they have great coaches and the drills and play are a good level. The one thing I wish they would address is making it easier to book and sing up. They have an app which shows event calendar but it doesn’t display if there are open spots and it doesn’t let you sign up for any clinics or court time. So you always have to call or email which works but is not convenient. They are very busy so finding private lesson time during non working hours is very hard.
