Tech Academy, formerly Computer Explorers of Minnesota, has run hands-on STEM summer camps for kids ages 5-15 since 2003, offering about 30 classes in Minecraft, video game design, programming (Java, Python, web design), engineering, robotics (LEGO Mindstorms, VEX), digital film making and 3D printing. New sessions start every week from June through August across 100-plus sites in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Importantly, camps are hosted through local school district Community Education programs and Parks & Recreation departments, so families register through their district rather than directly with Tech Academy.

★Emma OtterbladMy kids took a Video Production for YouTube class on 8/27/21 by this company through community ed in Northfield. We were extremely unimpressed. First of all the teachers did not smile or greet the kids in any way when they arrived. My friend who has a child with special needs tried to give the guy information about her child and he wouldn't even make eye contact with her or respond to what she was saying. Then after class I asked my kids how it was and in their own words "it wasn't the best". They said that the teachers weren't interactive at all - they just gave them the directions twice then said that they were on their own. I am sure there are lots of great companies out there that offer classes for community ed programs, but this one did not seem at all friendly or engaging.

We sent multiple emails, our District rep sent multiple emails, and then I posted a not-so good review....then we finally got the CAD drawings.

★★MacAccording to my son, the Minecraft class was fine, but the communication afterwards was horrible. We were told after class that all the kids creations would be emailed to the parents. Well, no email. I then emailed 3 times in the next month and the lady manning the email box kept saying Haydn would get back to me, but never did. So never again will we go there.
★★★★★Regina D. ShapiroWe had a minecraft party there. Hayden, was great and very knowleable about Minecraft. He set up mini-games, and taught the boys how to make water cannons. Most of our kids only played on the Xbox version, but he gave them a quick lesson on the PC, and we had a hard time getting the kids off the computers to eat. My son said it was the best party he has ever had!
