Tacoma Youth Symphony Association is a nonprofit youth music organization whose summer program is a slate of camps and festivals for young orchestral musicians. The Evergreen Music Festival Session 1 (ages 7-14) at Pacific Lutheran University and Session 2 (entering 9th grade through age 20) at Central Washington University fill days with rehearsals, instrument-specific coaching, music theory classes, recreation and a final performance. Shorter three- and four-day intensives cover percussion, bassoon and double bass, plus a Summer Jazz Orchestra that performs at McMenamins Elks Temple. Campers must play an orchestral instrument, and scholarships and financial aid are available.

Both of my kids are having a great time in their respective groups. They are well organized and their directors are passionate.

TYSA is such an incredible organization for kids of all skill levels. The staff are so passionate about their work, and are always going the extra mile to ensure that everyone is having a positive experience. Attending their concerts and events is such a fun way to support the arts in our community and enjoy music!

TYSA is an amazing organization! The kindness and dedication of the educators and staff motivates the students. My kids have grown so much in their knowledge and musical ability. We feel so fortunate to be part of Tacoma Youth Symphony. I highly recommend TYSA!

TYSA has been a great place for young adults to become better musicians. My daughter attended the Evergreen Music Festival summer camp as a 5th grader on the recommendation of her Elementary Teacher. Each day I picked her up, she was so excited to go back. She asked to join the orchestra that year. The staff is so encouraging and all inclusive. They also encourage the older musicians to help mentor the younger students. In our case, one of the student mentors just graduated from college and has been present at EVERY in person audition since that first EMF camp FIVE years ago.

The Tacoma Youth Symohony was by far the best group I've ever been a part of, and honestly shaped me into who I am today. By far the best youth group on the west coast, and I can say that confidently. They have the nicest staff you've ever met, and I can assure that it's the best music experience a young person can have.
